Samsung Exynos 2200 Announced 4nm SoC with AMD RDNA 2 GPU

KingdomTaurusNews.com – Samsung announced a new System-on-Chip (SoC), known as the Samsung Exynos 2200 for flagship smartphones, with a graphics processing unit (GPU) based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture called “Samsung Xclipse 920″.

“The Samsung Exynos 2200 is built with a 4-nanometer (nm) EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) process combined with cutting-edge mobile, GPU and state-of-the-art NPU. The new Xclipse mobile GPUs are built with AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics technology,” said Yongin Park, President of System LSI Business at Samsung Electronics.

According to Samsung, the AMD RDNA 2 architecture, Xclipse with advanced graphics features such as ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS) previously only available on PCs, laptops and consoles. The Xclipse GPU comes with various technologies such as advanced multi-IP governor (AMIGO) which improves overall performance and efficiency.

Ray tracing is a technology that simulates how light behaves physically in the real world. By calculating the movement and color characteristics of light rays as they bounce off surfaces, ray tracing produces realistic lighting effects for graphically rendered scenes.

Variable rate shading is a technique that optimizes GPU workloads by allowing developers to apply lower levels of shading in areas where overall quality will not be affected. The GPU will have more room to work in the areas that matter most to gamers and increase frame-rates for smoother gameplay.

The Exynos 2200 integrates Arm’s latest Armv9 CPU cores, the octa-core Exynos 2200 CPU is designed in a tri-cluster structure consisting of one Arm Cortex-X2 flagship-core, three Cortex-A710 big-cores, and four Cortex-A510 little-cores power saving.

The Exynos 2200 offers AI with an improved NPU with twice the NPU performance compared to before. NPUs now offer FP16 (16bit floating point) support in addition to the power-efficient INT8 (8bit integers) and INT16.

For security in Exynos 2200 with Integrated Secure Element (iSE) to store private cryptographic keys and act as RoT (Root of Trust). The Exynos 2200 also integrates a 3GPP Release 16 5G modem that supports sub-6GHz and mmWave (millimeter Wave) spectrum bands. With E-UTRAN New Radio – Dual Connectivity (EN-DC), which utilizes 4G LTE and 5G NR signals, the modem can increase speeds up to 10Gbps.

The image signal processor (ISP) in the Exynos 2200 supports the latest image sensors for ultra-high resolutions of up to 200 megapixels (MP). At 30 frames per second (fps), the ISP supports up to 108 MP in single camera mode, and 64+36MP in dual camera mode. For video recording, the ISP supports resolutions up to 4K HDR (8K).

The Exynos 2200 features HDR10+, offers a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, QHD Plus display resolution, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, LPDDR5 Memory, and Storage UFS v3.1.

The 4nm chipset from the Samsung Exynos 2200 with the Samsung Xclipse 920 graphics processor is an option for those of you who choose the latest flagship gaming smartphone. Currently the Exynos 2200 is in mass production.
